Origin & History
The roots go back to the 1820s in Thuringia, and the Steingraeber family has built pianos and grand pianos in Bayreuth since 1852, the first Bayreuth instrument carries the works number “Opus 1”. Steingraeber & Söhne remains an independent, sixth-generation family business to this day.
Positioning
With around 35 employees, Steingraeber is the smallest of the major German heritage brands and builds every instrument by hand. It’s positioned in the ultra-premium segment, above most series manufacturers. Steingraeber also builds the Haute Facture grand pianos for the French brand Pleyel in cooperation.
Sound character
Because every instrument is hand-built and individually voiced, Steingraeber’s sound can be tailored to personal taste more than at most series manufacturers.
