Buy Ibach
Used and new Ibach uprights and grand pianos
Origin & History
Ibach was founded in 1794 and, until production stopped in 2007, was the world’s oldest still-operating piano manufacturer at its Schwelm site. Over more than two centuries the brand built uprights and grands, and no new Ibach instruments have been made since the closure.
Positioning
In its working years, Ibach sat in the upper mid-range to premium segment, comparable to other German heritage brands of the time. With no new production, today it’s purely a collector’s and used market with limited supply.
Sound character
Pre-2007 Ibach instruments are known for a balanced, warm tone, typical of German piano building tradition of their era.
What to check
Since no new instruments have been made since 2007, the build year matters a lot: scaling, action and restoration needs vary considerably by age. Always have an older instrument checked by a specialist workshop before buying. General buying criteria are covered in the piano buying guide.
Known series
Best known are the B series (such as B114, B116) in a classic style, and the more modern C and K series.
