Used and new Sauter uprights and grand pianos
Origin & History
The workshop was founded in 1819 by Johann Grimm in Spaichingen, Württemberg, and his nephew Carl Sauter took over the firm in 1846, giving it his name. A majority stake has been in outside hands since 1993, and production has stayed exclusively in Spaichingen ever since.
Positioning
Sauter is a premium brand from German workshop production with over 200 years of history, known for a wide range of finishes and design variants.
Sound character
Sauter is known for a warm, singing tone, and some models feature an extra fourth pedal for additional tonal color.
What to check
Sauter offers many different finishes and design variants, from mahogany and walnut to high-gloss blue or white, which often affects price more than with other brands. Compare finish carefully, not just the model name. More in the piano buying guide.
Known series
Known models include the Pure Basic 122 and Cosmo 116 uprights and the Alpha, Delta and Omega grands.
