Origin & History
Eduard Seiler founded the brand in 1849 in Liegnitz, Silesia. The family rebuilt the company after the Second World War, and Seiler has been based in Kitzingen, Bavaria, since 1962. After an insolvency, the South Korean manufacturer Samick acquired the brand in November 2008, and German production in Kitzingen has continued since.
Positioning
Seiler runs three price tiers under one name: the classic “Seiler” line from Kitzingen is premium German manufacturing. “Eduard Seiler” has been built by Samick in Indonesia to German scaling since 2011 and sits in the mid-range. “Johannes Seiler” is the independently designed entry line since 2013, also from Indonesia.
Sound character
The Kitzingen Seiler line has a warm, singing tone, while the more affordable Indonesian Eduard and Johannes Seiler lines aim for the same character without quite matching its depth.
