Used and new Pfeiffer uprights and grand pianos
Origin & History
The Carl A. Pfeiffer workshop was founded in 1862 by Joseph Anton Pfeiffer in Stuttgart and has carried the name of his son Carl Anton Pfeiffer since 1912. The company has been based in Leonberg, Baden-Württemberg, since 1994 and still builds exclusively in Germany.
Positioning
Pfeiffer is a premium brand from German workshop production, less well known than Bechstein or Schimmel but with a comparable standard of quality.
Sound character
As a small German workshop, Pfeiffer focuses on a balanced, warm tone with careful individual voicing of every instrument.
What to check
Unlike many other German heritage brands, Pfeiffer has no manufacturing abroad and no sub-brands, so origin is clear. For older used instruments, it’s still worth checking build year and finish, the range spans plain designs to elaborate Chippendale styling. More in the piano buying guide.
Known series
Current production includes the 114, 118 and 124 uprights and a compact grand.
